Fun day for the youngsters
Bannockburn Rugby Club’s junior section celebrated the end of their season in style with a fun day featuring the annual awards ceremony, barbecue, bouncy castles, music, rugby demos, coffee and cakes, an afternoon bar and a special fundraising raffle.
In five years, the junior section has grown from only four keen youngsters to more than 60 each week and all kids get a game and all are included.
One parent said: “My kids thrive at Bannockburn Rugby Club, the coaches got to know them well very quickly, and are continually encouraging. I was made to feel very welcome.”
And another added: “I really admire the coaches; always there early and always set up and ready to start on time. Discipline is fair and all kids work hard. My boys are really learning life skills on the pitch!”
Bannockburn coaches are all volunteers and the club actively encourages more support from volunteer parents. They are all PVG checked and trained through the Scottish Rugby Union coach education training programmes.
Last season saw the growth and development of the social committee at the club. This strength has encouraged parents to remain part of the club and support home training and matches and of course get together to bolster club funds!
Lead coach Martin Kenny siad: “Our key goals are to support the development of rugby at grass roots level, in the community and in local schools with taster sessions and this summer will see the return of the joint summer camp with Active Stirling and Scottish Rugby from August 4-8.”
