Keeping in touch

Super day at Bridgehaugh

- Gareth Jones

Touch rugby teams from across Scotland were in Stirling recently for a tournament and ceilidh.

Twenty mixed teams played throughout the day at Bridgehaugh and the tournament, for teams of all levels from elite to novice, was won by the Meerkits of Aberdeen, who defeated the Hoodlums, also from Aberdeen, in a tight final.

Spectators watched four games being played at the same time and after the tournament, there was a ceilidh with all the teams socialising together.

The event was hosted by Stirling Storm, who were formed as Stirling Touch in 2001, before rebranding earlier this year. Player numbers have grown with new and enthusiastic participants signing up.

Storm’s Jennifer Eunson said: “Our goals are to push back into top eight in Scotland across the series of tournaments this year with a stronger competitive side, whilst still developing new players and maintaining our fun welcoming side to the club.”

The club competes in the Glasgow Leagues and at tournaments throughout the country all year round, and hosts regular social evenings.

Stirling Storm work and train alongside Stirling University Touch Team to support and coach their players, and since 2007 has had 30 different players represent Scotland at different levels.

The club is always looking for new players and trains at Stirling County RFC on Mondays and Wednesdays, between 6.30pm and 8pm from April to September, and on the St Modan’s astro pitches in the winter.
