Defeat spells end of county hopes
Stirling County West’s Hamilton Trophy hopes disappeared on Saturday when they lost to near neighbours Clackmannan and Kinross.
Following their penultimate qualifying match on Alloa East End green, County West went down by the narrowest of margins following an exciting finish to a pulsating encounter.
With scores locked at 118-apiece with two rinks to finish County dropped a four and carded a three after an umpire’s measure to lose by just one shot.
The result saw County West drop out of contention to qualify for the latter stages, however it ensured the Wee County bowlers remained in the frame going into Saturday’s finals series of matches.
County West finished with two winning rinks. Leading the way and still undefeated were Daniel McCann, David McEwan sen., Dougie Kerr and Gary Malcomson with a superb 41-10 victory over Jim Flannagan.
Also winning were Bryan Stillie, Craig Watson, Danny McCormick and Pat Martin who carded a last end seven to finish 20-16 ahead of Bruce Ramage.
Ian Forsyth, David McKean, David Ferguson and Willie Black lost 18- 17 to Ian Inglis, while Charlie Gibson, Duncan Angus, Aaron Hazel and David Stewart lost 18-16 to Gary Craig.
Also losing out were Garry Brown, Billy Guy, David McEwan jun. and Jason Williams who went down 20-19 to Steven Allan.
Completing the line up were Manny Cruz, George Young, Kenny Murdoch and Sandy Deans who slumped to a 40- 8 defeat at the hands of Neil Dewar. Totals: Stirling County West 121, Clackmannan and Kinross 122.
For their final match on Saturday County West travel to the Raploch green to take on Lanarkshire West.
The rinks skipped by D Stewart, G Malcolmson, P Martin and J Williams remain unchanged. The other two rinks are L McCormack, D Mathieson, S Deans and K Murdoch along with J Brown, I Forsyth, D Ferguson and W Black. Reserve G Young .
