POLMAISE AT THE DOUBLE

Club takes singles and pair titles

- John Miller

It was Polmaise at the double on Monday evening as the Fallin club scooped singles and pairs silverware at the re - scheduled Cent ral Association championship finals at Alva South green.

Also celebrating were Dunblane triples, Alva fours and Riverside senior fours as they stepped up to receive their glittering prizes.

James Brown captured the singles trophy for Polmaise with a 21- 12 success over Denny’s Brian Muir.

Nine-seven ahead at the 10th end James added 10 shots over the next five ends as the finishing line came into view.

He didn’t have to wait long as two ends later he carded a two to become a worthy champion.

Polmaise added a second trophy when Aaron Hazel and Gary Malcolmson won the pairs final with a 15-11 victory over Doune Castle’s Paul Monteith and Kenny Murdoch.

Eight shots adrift after 10 ends the Doune duo pulled it back to just five shots going into the final end – but it proved too big a task as Polmaise held out for victory.

Dunblane tasted victory in the triples when Daniel Nixon, Keith Brown and Adam McQue got the better of Stirling’s Alan Wray, James Wray and Brian Weir by 16 shots to seven.

Alva won the fours title by a single shot. Robert Hunter, Derek Beer, David Thompson and Eugene Greasley held off the challenge from Cambusbarron’s Henry Stark, Neil Wilson, Darren Liddell and David Ferguson to win 15-14.

Riverside’s senior fours skip Tom Findlay secured victory for his club when, with game against him, he ditched the jack with his final delivery to seal victory by 13-11.

His delighted team- mates were Bert Samuel, Dick Horsburgh and Tom Millar. Losing out were Doune Castle’s Ian Lang, Bob Holland, David Armstrong and Tom Jackson.

The junior singles final, played recently, after the championships were washed out on June 1, was won by Stirling’s Lee McCormack with a 21-12 win over Cambusbarron’s Calum Musik.
