Pupils bring Shakespeare to the Great Hall
The Great Hall at Stirling Castle is set to take centre stage for pupils from Dunblane High School on Tuesday as budding young actors perform a showcase of Shakespeare.
The event is one of many taking place across the country in the 400th year since Shakespeare’s death as Britain’s top cultural, creative and educational organisations mark“Shakespeare400” with a range of public performances, programmes, exhibitions and events.
S2 pupils from Dunblane will offer performances from the comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream, as well as excerpts from Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet.
Eleanor Muir, Visitor Experience Manager at Stirling Castle, said:“We’re very pleased to welcome these young performers to the castle, which is a truly atmospheric backdrop for them to share what they’ve been learning about one of Britain’s most famous writers.
“It’s fantastic to see young people so enthused by literature and history, and I’m sure they’ll give our visitors an afternoon to remember as they bring some of Shakespeare’s best loved plays to life in the Great Hall. ”The pupils have been studying Shakespeare and exploring Elizabethan life and they will be on hand at the castle to tell visitors about their findings on the day.
On July 27-28, the castle will play host to a full-length performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream by professional touring theatre company Chapterhouse.
