City shoppers offered TV food truck treat

Nairn serves feast

- Robert Fairnie

Unique flavours were on the menu as a Michelinstarred chef and Scottish TV presenter cooked up a storm in Stirling city centre.

Nick Nairn and Dougie Vipond brought a mobile food truck and a team of cameramen and producers to Port Street on Wednesday to film for BBC One hit show ‘Landward’.

Crowds of shoppers stopped for a feast in the sunshine as the duo served up some North Ronaldsay mutton, wild salmon and grass-fed beef.

Landward returns to screens tonight (Friday) but viewers will have to wait till next month to see the pair in action in Stirling.

Nick Nairn said: “‘Landward’ is an extremely popular programme which has been running for 40 years so it’s nice to see so many people come out and watch what we’re doing.

“I’m a local myself so I love coming back and seeing everyone passing by. It’s also important to hear what they are saying about the products we are serving.

“It’s not often you get to try some wild salmon or grassfed beef when you’re walking down the street so it’s been enjoyable to do.

“The weather has been excellent too – I’ve been telling the crew it’s like this every day in Stirling.”

Dougie Vipond, who hosts the show, added: “We’ve been stopping in at places all over Scotland. It’s an important feature to the show. The day in Stirling went really well.

“We did have some people coming up to us and asking for a burger but everyone who tried the mutton thought it was great.

“I went out to North Ronaldsay and did the whole back story but you’ll need to watch the programme to find out more about that.”
