THE FANTASTIC FOUR!
Four Stirling University-based swimmers will make the trip to Rio this summer as part of Team GB’s 26-strong squad for the Olympic Games.
Robbie Renwick will swim in his third Games and the 27 year-old will be joined in Brazil by former Balfron High School pupil Ross Murdoch, Alloa’s Duncan Scott and Craig Benson.
They will be joined by four other Scots - Camilla Hattersley, Daniel Wallace, Stephen Milne and Hannah Miley. The 26 athletes sealed their spots with their performances at last week’s British Swimming Championships at Glasgow.
Renwick swam for Team GB at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and London 2012 and also won gold in the 200m freestyle at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
His greatest success came in the 2015 World Championships where he, Dan Wallace, Callum Jarvis and James Guy, beat the United States in the men’s 4x200 freestyle relay. Murdoch (22) came to prominence at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games when he won gold in the 200m breaststroke, defeating favourite Olympic silver medallist Michael Jamieson.
Last year he was part of the GB squad which won gold in the mixed 4 x 100m medley relay at the 2015 World Championships, adding a relay world title to the individual bronze won days earlier in the men’s 100m breaststroke behind teammate Adam Peaty.
Benson (21) was the youngest member of the GB swimming squad at the London Olympics and was fourth in the 100m breaststroke at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Scott (18) was the most successful British swimmer at last year’s European Games, winning three golds in the 200m, 100m freestyle and 4 x 100m freestyle relay and was part of the gold medal winning GB 4x200m squad at the 2015 World Championships.
He also boasts a silver medal in the 4x200m freestyle relay at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
