One-way system set to come into force

- Gareth Jones

A new one-way system is set to come into force in Stirling city centre this weekend.

Traffic will only be able to travel down Murray Place and Station Road from Sunday (May 1).

Vehicles coming from the railway station or the bus station end of Goosecroft Road will have to travel further along the road before turning left onto Viewfield Place, approaching Murray Place from Barnton Street if they want to access the streets, as they will be unable to turn left onto Station Road at the roundabout.

The changes will also mean that bus routes will change, with a plan showing the locations of new bus stops and which service will operate from each stop being displayed on most buses and at city centre stops.

The alterations are part of the Stirling Station Gateway project which aims to create a better welcome for all those arriving in the city, make it easier for pedestrians and cyclists to get around and improve access to public transport.

Stirling Council’s director of housing and environment, Robert Steenson, said: “We want people arriving in Stirling to get the best welcome possible and for all visitors and commuters to experience an easy to navigate, attractive and functional environment.

“Some of the work due to take place shortly will inevitably cause some disruption, but we will work hard to minimise that by maintaining access to properties at all times and putting proper measures in place to ensure work is carried out safely and efficiently.

“Ultimately the work should help create a higher quality environment for us all.”

Works to implement the changes are underway, and further improvements are set to be made outside the station and in Station Road and Murray Place. For more information on the new travel plan, visit my.stirling.gov.uk/ news/view/30508
