Fined for careless driving

-

A Tullibody woman whose careless driving caused an accident on the A811 near Stirling has been fined £300.

Janey Sinclair, 51, drove carelessly and failed to keep proper look out, colliding with the rear of another vehicle close to Touch Road on January 19.

Sinclair, of Dovecot Road, sustained multiple injuries and, along with the driver of the other vehicle, required hospital treatment.

Stirling Sheriff Court heard on Friday how Sinclair had been driving home from work when the incident happened at around 5.20pm.

Fiscal depute Adrian Fraser said: “The accused was driving behind the witness’ vehicle.

“The witness indicated to turn right at the junction to Cambusbarron and when they slowed to stop the accused collided with the rear of the vehicle.

“Oncoming vehicles stopped to give assistance and a 999 call was made. When police arrived they saw significant damage to the front of the accused’s vehicle and the witness’ rear bumper was damaged.”

An ambulance attended and the witness was taken to hospital and treated for whiplash but released the same day.

Sinclair suffered a broken sternum, bruised ribs and ankle ligament damage.

She told police that she was unable to stop as the vehicle in front had applied the brakes suddenly and failed to indicate prior to the collision.

Her defence solicitor said: “Her position is that there was no indication but she accepts that she did go into the back of the van and that it was reckless.

“She has held a driving licence since 1982 and there have been no other incidents.”

She was fined a sum of £300 and seven points were added to her licence.
