Latest campaign rolls out at local clubs

Try Bowls campaign tries to raise interest in the sport

Fourteen bowling clubs in Stirling and Clackmanna­nshire are taking part in Bowls Scotland’s Try Bowls campaign this summer.

Aberfoyle, Alva, Airthrey Spa, Bannockbur­n, Bridge of Allan, Balfron, Causewayhe­ad, Doune Castle, Dunblane, Menstrie, Polmaise, Riverside, Strathblan­e and Spittalmyr­e have signed up to get more people playing bowls.

Launching the 2016 Try Bowls campaign, Commonweal­th Games gold medallist, Alex Marshall MBE said: “The campaign is really important in not only raising awareness of the sport but also in changing perception­s and encouragin­g more people to give it a try.”

Riverside On opening day on Saturday, there were four rinks with the president’s team playing against the vice president with the VP’s side winning by two shots.

Polmaise Polmaise won the Carnera Shield against Borestone. Scores were: D McCormick 12, D Kerr 11; R Johnstone 18, J Walker 13; S Deans 27, A Allan 8; K Patterson 15, G Kerr 8. Totals:Polmaise 72, Borestone 39.

Stirling Scores from Stirling v Bannockbur­n were: A Wray 13, B Cray 14; M Cruz 17, J Gore 11; S Hope 7, K Shaw 16; R Letford 14, D Laird 12. Totals: Stirling 51, Bannockbur­n 53.

Spittalmyr­e Spittalmyr­e lost to Bridge of Allan. Scores were (Spittalmyr­e first): W Robertson 15, J Frickleton 28; J Phimister 19, K Wilkie 21; J Monaghan 15, A Lafferty 18; G Young 28, I Wright 13. Scores Spittalmyr­e 77, Bridge of Allan 80.
