Man airlifted to hospital after taking ill on loch

-

Emergency teams had to work together after a man became seriously ill while out on Loch Lomond.

The 28-year-old had to be transferred to hospital by boat, and then helicopter for treatment after suffering a seizure.

The Loch Lomond Rescue Boat was utilised on Tuesday (April 26) at 8pm after being alerted by emergency services.

They found the man, who was unconscious, at the Doune Bothy, which is between Rowardennan and Inversnaid.

A spokesman for the team said: “The boat quickly launched and proceeded to the location where the crew found an unresponsive 28-year-old male suffering a seizure.

“LLRB crew instantly began treating the casualty within the Bothy and after a short period felt the man’s condition was serious enough that he required urgent medical attention and Coastguard Rescue 999 was requested for assistance.

“Some of the crew continued to treat the casualty until the arrival of the helicopter and their on-board paramedic, whilst remaining crew utilised a smoke flare to assist the helicopter pilot in his landing. As soon as the patient had been stabilised he was taken aboard Rescue 999 and flown to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley for further treatment.”

The man was said to be in a stable condition, and the crew were stood down at 11pm.
