Balfron residents to cut ribbon on new signs
Balfron is celebrating a sign of the times this weekend.
New welcome signs - created following a local design competition won by villager Louise Craig- are now taking pride of place at entrances to the village.
On Saturday at 11am they will be officially launched.
Balfron Community Council chairman Colin Cameron said:“We’re having a small celebration to say thank you to all those involved in all sorts of ways in the creation of the new road signs - from the initial Design-a-Sign competition way back in autumn 2014, to their final installation last week.
“Each sign is different, front and back.
“We’re particularly keen to welcome the children who contributed their cheerful hand prints that wave us out of the village, so anyone who knows any of them, bring them along to the Clachan Oak.”
The ceremony will be followed by teas and juice in the Church. The signs replace the“Greek Thomson”signs which had become badly eroded.
The competition attracted 60 entries from the small community and the public voted for an elegant design by local resident Louise, which incorporates icons representing the past, present and future of the village.
The four new signs cost a total of around £4000 which was paid for through fundraising, donations and sponsorship, including a donation from the Paul Charitable Trust, while Stirling Council offered to carry out the installation.
