Youngest chieftain honour for Mhairi

-

Miss Scotland Mhairi Fergusson has been announced as this year’s chieftain of the Bridge of Allan Highland Games.

And she will be the youngest person to have ever held the honour.

The 22-year-old from Stirling is set to bring more than a touch of glamour to the 165th Games, which take place on August 7 this year.

Attracting crowds of between 8-10,000, the event is one of Scotland’s premier Highland Games, showcasing traditional Highland culture and sporting events including Highland dancing, Scottish cuisine, heavyweight competitions and over a thousand pipers.

Growing up in Blairlogie, Mhairi attended the prestigious event throughout her childhood and teenage years.

She said:“I feel very privileged to have been announced as the youngest ever Chieftain for the Games.

“I grew up in Stirling and am really looking forward to being part of what promises to be the best ever Games.”

After being diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 13, Mhairi has worked tirelessly to improve awareness and help families affected by the condition.

During 2016 she has raised over £185,000 and continues to devote her time as the reigning Miss Scotland and Miss United Kingdom to help raise funds for the Muir Maxwell Trust, of which she is an ambassador.
