Music lovers look forward to Scribbler’s Picnic

-

The final preparations are being made for Scribbler’s Picnic.

The event takes place at Stirling Rugby Club on Sunday (May 8), with hundreds of performers on the bill.

Now in its 15th year, the festival aims to attract enthusiastic music lovers of all ages along to enjoy an array of acts whilst raising thousands for charity.

The non-profit event is run entirely by volunteers in memory of Stirling musician, teacher and former Observer columnist Graham‘The Scribbler’ Whitelaw who died of cancer in 2001.

Maggie’s Forth Valley build fund, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Strathcarron Hospice, Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) and Macmillan Cancer Support have all benefited from the events over the years with over £100,000 raised.

Over 200 musicians and singers will be performing music of all genres including folk, indie, rock, ska and covers. BBC‘The Voice’singer Laura Begley will also star on the main stage alongside acts such as Bad Name, Benny Gallagher from Gallagher and Lyle and Big Fat Panda.

Scotland rugby ace Finn Russell has been selected as this year’s patron, and Stirling pubs Nicky Tams and Baker Street, and Stirling Music Centre will be running a stage for the first time.

Andrea Lindsay, of Nicky Tams, said: “We recently lost a family member to cancer which makes our participation even closer to our hearts. All our customers and friends have already raised funds which go to Cancer Research in memory of Val Campbell.

“Our line-up includes Vulture in the Lobby, Scott Ashworth, Mondegreen, Joe Swindells, Reece Hillis, Something Someone, Rubix Touch, Vendors, Bloodstone and Midtown Riot.”

There will be a range of charity and commercial stalls, tombola, raffle, five-a-side football, dancing, food, bar, kids shows and inflatables.

This year the official after-party will be held at the Corn Exchange pub.
