Ogilvie is the Chris of death to rivals

Doune maintain their unbeaten league run

Giffnock North ...1 Doune Castle .....1

Sports reporter Honours were even as Doune maintained their unbeaten league run with a fine display against their nearest challengers.

Chris Ogilvie ensured the points were shared with a fine free kick after Giffnock had struck a spectacular opener.

Giffnock keeper Craig Marshall was tested twice in the early stages by Dylan McGowan, while at the other end Doune custodian Malcolm Scott denied the home side with a fine save before seeing a shot from striker David Fry deflected off the post to safety.

An entertaining half ended with the sides still locked at 0- 0 and it was Giffnock who broke the deadlock after 59 minutes.

Fry latched on to a loose ball wide of centre on the Castle right and took advantage of the gap in front of him to unleash a ferocious left- foot strike that thundered past Scott’s valiant dive to whistle high into the net from 30 yards.

Giffnock had barely finished celebrating when Doune deservedly equalised. Niall McClure was brought crashing down in a central position, 25 yards out and Ogilvie took full advantage of good work by Graham McClymont at the end of the Giffnock four-man defensive wall to curl a right foot shot around the wall to beat Marshall just inside his left hand post to make it 1-1.

Doune came close to edging the winner after 85 minutes.

McGowan drilled a free kick from a deep left position towards Lukasz Duszynski who had made a run down the right.

He did well to get to the ball just ahead of the outrushing Marshall and bravely hooked a downward volley on the fall.

The ball bounced beyond the keeper but drifted inches past the far post with the unguarded net beckoning.

This was a hard- earned but well-deserved point for the Castle against a Giffnock side who were always a threat. A share of the spoils was probably a fair result after a highly entertaining game.
