Competition triumph for face of August
A biker from Callander is one of 12 finalists to star in a charity motorcycle calendar.
Johan McGhee, 25, was picked from 600 entries by British Superbike racer Leon Haslam to feature in the calendar for insurance company Carole Nash.
The former McLaren High School student is now in the running to win a year’s modelling contract.
Following its recent study which found that bikers were rated as more attractive than drivers, Carole Nash was inspired to search for the 12 faces of its 2017 calendar.
The calendar will raise cash for the Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes, which transports blood and breastmilk to hospitals.
Johan, an administrator who lives with her boyfriend in Cornton, Stirling, entered her picture into the nationwide contest after she saw it advertised on Facebook.
She was invited to a professional photoshoot, where she received a full makeover and was given designer clothing to wear. She is on the August page of the calendar, which is set to be printed next month.
She said: “My mum and dad have motorbikes so I’ve grown up around them. I have a Triumph Street Triple.
“I don’t belong to a club but I like going out with my friends and to bike rallies.
“I entered the competition out of the blue one day. I love bikes and thought it was something different that could be great fun. I’ve never done anything like this before.
“I’ve not even got as far as thinking of winning. I just can’t wait to see the final calendar.”
Johan’s boyfriend Scott Mclaughlan, 26, an engineer, is really excited to see his girlfriend as a calendar pin-up.
The calendar will be given out at the Motorcycle Live show at the NEC in Birmingham.
Peter Robertson from the Blood Bikes charity said: “The proceeds will help continue to support and underpin the vital work that we do all over the UK and Ireland.”
The top three entrants will win an overnight stay in Birmingham and tickets to attend Motorcycle Live on November 19.
The third place winner will also get £100 and the second place model will get a new leather jacket and £100 in shopping vouchers.
The overall winner gets a year’s modelling contract with GModels casting and creative agency, a professional photoshoot with a modelling portfolio, a makeover and a new leather jacket worth up to £150.
