Buggy walk friends

Combining getting fit plus meeting new people in support group

- Robert Fairnie

More than 25 parents, toddlers and babies fostered friendships after coming together to complete a social buggy walk in Bannockburn.

The Big Fit Buggy Walk 2016 was organised as part of Active Stirling’s Paths for All Big Fit Walk – a scheme designed to celebrate the benefits of being active.

Participants braved wet weather and started out at the Battle of Bannockburn Site before finishing up at the King Robert Hotel where refreshments were served.

Active Stirling currently run five smaller buggy walks each week and Jude Deacons, community physical activity and sport manager, insists there are real benefits to such activities.

She said: “I would like to thank the Buggy Walk Volunteer Leaders who commit to the programme each week.

“It is their enthusiasm that provides new parents with the space to meet each week, share their experiences of parenting, and developing friendships while enjoying the many added health benefits of getting out for a walk.”

Organisers insist the buggy walks provide an opportunity to foster friendships and develop a support network which can positively impact on a parent’s health and wellbeing.

Those who are pregnant or new parents are invited to join in one of the buggy walks. For more information go to www.activestirling.or.uk/ buggywalks.
