Concert a high note

Fitting finale to first term

- \McLaren High

Autumn Concert The Autumn Concert took place in McLaren High School on Thursday, October 6. Although pupils and staff had only seven weeks to rehearse the evening was a huge success with performances from the orchestra, pipe band, trad group, choir, string, brass and woodwind ensembles.

Everyone agreed it was a brilliant end to the first school term. Next musical date for the diary is Stirling Council’s Annual Schools’ Concert which showcases more than 200 young musicians from all seven high schools in an extravaganza that includes a vocal ensemble, symphony orchestra, wind band, string orchestra, pipe band, pianists and guitarists. This event shows what a wealth of talent there is in Stirling Council schools.

As the demand for tickets is high, there will be performances in two venues again this year. The first concert will be in McLaren High School on Saturday, November 12, at 7.30pm followed a week later by another concert in the Albert Halls, Stirling. Tickets priced £6/£4 are available from the Albert Halls Box Office (01786 473544). This is followed by the McLaren High School St Andrews Night Concert which takes place in the school on Wednesday, November 30. Tickets are available from the school priced £5.

The evening will feature the school pipe band, trad group and the best of young folk musicians from the school. There will also be a raffle, auction and bar.

Inter-house events Friday, October 7 saw the first whole school Inter-house events of the year. All pupils throughout the school took part in one of the following events to win points for their house: Quiz; Caricature Competition; Debating; Touch Rugby and The Great Scottish Bake Off. By the end of the day total house points stood at: Dochart 810 points; Bracklinn 752 points; Leny 735 points.

Well done to everyone who took part on the day and thanks to all staff who helped run these events.
