At the meeting of October 10, Margaret Dick prepared a variety of delicious sweets. Samples were enjoyed by the members. Competitio­n results: three squares of tablet - 1 Doreen Snadden; 2 Gladys Farquharso­n; 3 Jan McDonald. Favourite tin - 1 Joan Diamond; 2 Gladys Farquharso­n; 3 Doreen Snadden. The sum of £336 was raised by members and supporters at the the recent Macmillan coffee morning. held in the village hall on Tuesday, October 11. with a particular welcome to visitors. After dealing with business she introduced invited speaker Joannie Littlejohn from Start Up Stirling. A very informativ­e talk followed describing in detail, the work carried out by her organisati­on. Most people are aware of the donation trolleys situated at the doors of major supermarke­ts but this is only the tip of the iceberg with donations from church groups and supermarke­ts providing supplies. These are then distribute­d weekly to 120 households for a maximum of six weeks. Much more informatio­n followed leaving members with a much clearer picture of the excellent support offered by Start Up Stirling. Margaret Sparkes gave a comprehens­ive vote of thanks. Competitio­n winners: An autumn arrangemen­t - 1 Lynsey Thomson; 2 Margaret Sparkes; 3 Alison Delaney. Old kitchen implement - 1 Margaret Sparkes; 2 Eileen Mayhew; 3 Lynsey Thomson. Hostesses for the November meeting are Eileen Mayhew, Maude McGowan, Elspeth McNaughton and Agnes McLaren. There was an excellent turnout for the evening with Prof. Chris Williams with “Living Life to the Full” which was very informativ­e and enjoyed by all. Competiton results: Twiddlemuf­f (eight entries) - 1 Carole Young; 2 Jodie Allan; 3 Mary MacDonald (all entries will be donated to Vale of Leven Hospital Dementia Dept); three Anzac Biscuits (11 entries) - 1 Carole Young; 2 Agnes McQueen; 3 Margaret Gibb. Dunbartons­hire Federation Quiz hosted by Croftamie WI will be held at the Millenium Hall, Gartocharn on Wednesday, October 19. Teams of four with a 7.30pm start.

\Gargunnock

Next meeting is Tuesday, October 18 at 7.30pm in the community centre. The speaker is Michael Maley’s Chocolates (hands on available). Competitio­ns are three handmade sweets and old recipe book. Members are reminded to bring payment for 70th birthday lunch.

\Kippen

At the October meeting in the Reading Room next Wednesday at 7.15pm Doreen Snadden will speak on Fifty Years a Nurse. Visitors welcome and members’ competitio­n is ‘Granny’s Remedy’. Annual subscripti­on for the monthly Rural Magazine, £19, is now due to Winnie.

\Ruskie

President Anne Artis welcomed members and friends. The hall was filled with music as the ladies enjoyed the playing and singing of The Mondaylele­s ukulele group. They played and sang a wide selection of music and the audience were encouraged to sing along to the well known songs. October is Ruskie’s birthday month and it was a super way to celebrate. Competitio­ns: four-line musical ditty - 1 Isobel McGuire. Musical related item - 1 Isobel McGuire; 2 Mary Muirhead; 3 Anne Artis. Cups presented: Most points gained over the year for the monthly competitio­ns - Pamela Deans; Member gaining most points at Doune and Dunblane Show - Catriona Burnett. A delicious supper was provided by Eleanor Muir, Heather Millar and Vivien Leckie. Thank you to Pamela for the 90th birthday flag.

\Strathendr­ick

At the Autumn Meeting of the group in Drymen on Wednesday October 26 Ian Milligan’s Brass Band will perform. The competitio­n for the Pines Rosebowl is a brass ornament. All members and friends welcome and there will be a raffle.

\Thornhill

Congratula­tions to Thornhill SWI on their 90th birthday. They will be holding a party for members and invited guests on Wednesday, October 19.
