College supports new Maggie’s site as its charity for the year
Forth Valley College and the Forth Valley Student Association have named Maggie’s Forth Valley Centre as their charity for this academic year.
The FVSA have already presented Maggie’s with a cheque for £448.48 raised during the Freshers’ fairs at the college.
Money raised from an upcoming college event the Girls’ Festive Day Out on Saturday November 26 at the Raploch Community Campus – will also be donated to Maggie’s Forth Valley with further fundraising events and initiatives planned throughout the year. A new Maggie’s centre is currently under construction in the grounds of Larbert Hospital, and will be opening shortly.
It will provide free, practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends.
Kerry Scott, the centre’s fundraising manager, recently discussed the fund-raising effort with FVC principal Dr Ken Thomson and development and fundraising manager Pauline Barnaby, President of the FVSA Alan Buchan and other members of the executive team - Amy Scobbie, Karen Williams, Angela Muirhead and Lynne McClelland. Dr Thomson, said: “Maggie’s is a truly inspirational and essential charitable organisation which does tremendous work to help people suffering from cancer.
“The college, along with our student association, will work hard to raise as much as we can for this great cause through the year.”
Alan Buchan, added: “We are happy that we were able to work with the student body to raise this money for such a worthy cause.
“We are looking forward to raising more funds in the near future at other events, and hope that these provide a real boost to Maggie’s Forth Valley over the year ahead.” **Also upcoming @Tolbooth… Gary Little – 8 Dec / Fred Morrison – 9 Dec / Christmas Ceilidhs – 10 Dec / Tommy Smith Youth Jazz Orchestra – 18 Dec / Skerryvore – 29 Dec / Popa Chubby – 27 Jan @The Albert Halls… Stars of Irish Country Show – 24 Nov / Stirling Orchestra – 4 Dec / NYCoS Choir Winter Concert – 6 Dec / The Roy Orbison Story – 9 Dec / Christmas Fair – 10 Dec / Hogmanay Ceilidh – 31 Dec / The Quireboys – 14 Dec / RSNO Viennese Gala – 11 Jan
