OlymPeak Games with a lot of heart
BrazilianSamba rhythms launch event
People recovering from cardiac problems demonstrated their sporting prowess in a special event held at The Peak.
No fewer than 172 members of the Healthy Hearts Club were joined by the cardiac rehabilitation team from NHS Forth Valley for another OlymPeak Games - this time with a Brazilian theme.
There was an opening ceremony in which those taking part warmed up to samba rhythms.
Thanks to Active Stirling, they were then able to use The Peak’s facilities including the spin studio, swimming pool and large gymnasium.
The prodium was graced by medallists of all ages and there was a real spirit of camaraderie at the gettogether before medals were presented by Chloe Howie and Holly Bernie, who are young relatives of club committee members.
Among the winners was Graham Howarth, who has won gold in the cycling at the past three games.
Forth Valley Healthy Hearts Club, which is a registered charity, was set up at Stirling Royal Infirmary in 1996.
It is based between Forth Valley Royal Hospital and The Peak, where there is a dedicated NHS studio, and encourages members to take part in a whole host of activities, such as swimming and bowling as well as walking.
There are regular walking groups hosted by Healthy Hearts for people of all fitness levels.
The club is open to anyone in the community who has had cardiac problems and has been through the hospital or Peak-based cardiac rehab programme. People of all ages and fitness levels are welcome.
For more information about the club contact the cardiology ward at Forth Valley Royal Hospital.
