Model behaviour and golf club opening

-

Our memory lane photographs this week were both sent in by readers.

Margaret Cook, from Bannockburn, supplied the snap of the ladies taking part in a `mannequin parade’ at Thomas Menzies store, King Street, Stirling.

Margaret, aged four when the picture was taken in 1933, is the little `trainbearer’ featured right.

She said parades of the kind photographed were popular among fashion shops, adding: “Over two years, I was the child modeller (for Menzies).

“My mother bought all my clothes from the store so I was given the honour of parading the catwalk twice a year.

“The dress I am wearing was gifted to me as a `thank you’.”

Margaret, whose maiden name is Marshall, said the models are, from left, Nancy Barnes, Ena Dunnachie, Greta McFarlane, May Crockett and May Brown, although she is not completely certain of the latter’s first name. The two matrons in black were models from the store.

The other picture, from Jim McKerchar, was taken at Stirling Golf Club on March 27, 1982.

It shows golfers assembled as club Captain Euan McEwean (front, third right) and ex-captain Eddie Lumsden exchange greetings before the start of the annual opening match.

Jim is himself pictured along with current members, Ian Bone, James McPherson, Johnny Cunningham,Craig Dunbar, Mike Edwards, Alex Clark and Ian Muir.
