Community Council Christmas celebratio­ns begin this Saturday, November 26 with a Christmas Fayre in the Cochrane Hall from 12.30pm. Anyone who would like to have a stall can collect one from Higglety Pigglety or download one from alvacommun­itycouncil.org.uk. Alva Country Dance Class The class runs on a Monday at 7pm at the Alva Academy Dance Studio. Alva Carpet Bowls How would you like to take up a new hobby? Carpet Bowls can be enjoyed by any age group. Our sessions run on Monday and Friday afternoons from 1.303.30pm at Alva Parklands. Age Concern Whist and dominoes are played tomorrow, Thursday, at 2pm in Alva Parish Church Hall. Ladywell Church Ladywell Church Christmas Fete is this Saturday, November 26, from 10.30am until noon. Tomorrow, Thursday, the coffee morning is from 10am until noon and the Craft Club meets at 7.30pm. On Sunday we will mark Souper Sunday and proceeds from the soup after church will be donated to the Church of Scotland’s HIV/AIDS Programme. Team Three will be on duty. Also on Sunday our Blue Christmas Service takes place at 1.30pm. Everyone welcome to attend this short act of worship. The Ladies Group meets on Monday at 7.30pm when the speaker will be Mary Kenyon from SSAFA. Allan Church Service on Sunday, November 27, at 11.15am. Sunday school during service and crèche available. Stirling Christadel­phian Church Bible Hour at the church at 40 Main Street, Bannockbur­n, is held every Sunday from 2.30pm with Sunday school at the same time. Lunch Club The lunch club meets on Wednesdays in the Crawford Hall, Colquhoun Street from 1-3pm and the older members of the community are invited. They will be welcome to come on their own or with a friend or carer. Bingo East Argyll Centre in Colquhoun Street has bingo every Tuesday, eyes down 7.30pm. Adults art classes Profession­al artist and award winning teacher Laura Newbury is holding classes for all levels with beginners welcome on Thursdays from 7-9pm in the Crawford Hall, Colquhoun Street. Parish Church This Sunday, November 27, is the first Sunday of Advent and will be conducted by Rev Dan Harper. The service will include the celebratio­n of the Sacrament of Baptism. Sunday School meets as usual, there will be a creche and Coffee Fellowship is in the Chalmers Hall after. We will be joined by Colin Smith from Start Up Stirling which coincides with their Christmas Collection Day. Christmas Fayre will be gratefully received as well as normal food items. The collection will go towards our “Tonne in Twelve” Challenge. The Thursday Night Group meets tomorrow, Thursday, at 7.45pm in the Session Room. Andrew Gallacher is the guest speaker and he will talk about manufactur­ing jewellery. The Guild meets on Tuesday, November 29 at 7.30pm in the Honeyman Hall. The subject of the talk is Breaking the Cycle of FGM. The Book Group meets on Monday December 5 at 7.30pm at Jane and Ian Lee’s home (please contact the office for details). The book being discussed will be Sebastian Faulks’ “Where my heart used to beat”. Everyone will be most welcome. St Saviour’s Episcopal Church Services - the Eucharist (Communion) services are at the usual times, Sundays 8am Eucharist, 10am Sung Eucharist with Young Church and Creche in the Church Hall during the service and coffee/tea served in the church hall afterwards; Wednesdays 11am in the Choir Vestry, a quiet, peaceful service with coffee/ tea afterwards. Sun November 27 is Advent Sunday. For the first thee Sundays of Advent, Professor Nicholas Price will be preaching on Not In God’s Name by Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks. Nick is a biochemist, retired from Glasgow University and now Lay Reader at St Saviour’s, Bridge of Allan. Special Event - The Grand Advent Bazaar on Saturday November 19 raised over £3000. St Saviour’s would like to thank all who supported this event. Allanbridg­e Social Club As the year is moves on members keep trying to ensure the club keeps moving forward and gaining strength.
