Garage group takingon twelve summer trainees

- Staff reporter

One of Scotland’s best-known companies is recruiting in the Forth Valley.

Arnold Clark Group will this summer give 12 young people the chance to join them as apprentices.

The programme offers anyone aged 16 to 19 years old the opportunity to learn skills and gain a recognised qualification in the motor industry. Apprentices receive both on-the- job training at an Arnold Clark branch and attend a number of weeklong training blocks at one of Arnold Clark’s GTG training centres.

The company say many apprentices have the opportunity to move on to more senior roles after qualification, including supervisory and management positions.

Danielle Hume, a 2016 graduate apprentice, said: “I’ve had a passion for cars for as long as I can remember! When I was at school, we had an open day and an Arnold Clark representative came in and spoke to us about the apprenticeship, so I just applied as soon as I finished school.

“I’ve always wanted to work for a big company because I think the job security is better.”

Each apprentice is assigned a mentor who guides them through the three-year training programme. For the next stage in her career, Danielle hopes to become a qualified technician on a manufacturer-specific level.

Suzanne Sherry, apprentice recruitment manager at Arnold Clark said: ‘This move demonstrates our continued commitment to the apprenticeship scheme and to creating new jobs for Scotland and Forth Valley. “We are very keen to introduce a younger workforce to the Arnold Clark family of over 11,000 staff already.’”

The company is looking for young people who have a keen interest in cars and have, or are currently studying for National Grade (4/5) in maths or English and either a science or technical subject (Standard Grades 1–4 and Intermediates will also be accepted). Closing date for applications is April 30.
