County lose out
Points proved difficult to come by on Saturday as Stirling County West bowlers started out on their Hamilton Trophy quest for the Scottish championship.
Against Lanarkshire West, County slumped to a 29-shot defeat.
Apart from the first five ends, when County held a slender one-shot advantage, they failed to rein in the Lanarkshire men who were dominant on four of the six rinks for much of the match.
At the halfway stage County had slipped 19 shots adrift and could make no inroads over the next five ends.
Best for West were Daniel McCann, David McEwan, Lee McCormack and Sandy Deans who finished 29-15 winners over Gordon Prentice.
Earning a draw (17-17) were Callum Musik, Stevie Whitton, Willie Black and Jason Williams who lined up against Gary Prunty.
Losing out were Steven Fleming, David Stewart, Kevan Frogley and Dougie Kerr who lost 25-16 to Robert Brown. Likewise were Harvey Robertson, George Young, Billy Guy and David Ferguson who went down 26-18 to Steven McLaren.
Alastair McFarlane, Danny McCormick, Lee Neilson and Kenny Murdoch lost 2010 to Alex Kelly, while Gary Brown, James Brown, Bryan Stillie and Gary Malcolmson went down 28-12 to Chris Brydon. Totals: Stirling County West 102, Lanarkshire West 131.
