Doune put on good show against champs
Final game ends in defeat but team can be proud
Dalziel HSFP...3 Doune Castle...1 Doune’s final game of the season ended in defeat at the hands of newly crowned Premier Division champions Dalziel.
But a somewhat depleted Castle side contributed much to an entertaining match.
Early exchanges were even, with Dalziel threatening on the counter attack and Sean Heaver and Dylan McGowan both forcing good saves from the home keeper.
Dalziel took a 1-0 lead after 18 minutes when Donaldson sprung the Doune offside trap to break clear and drill the ball past Steven Fotheringham from 14 yards to make it 1-0.
It was 2-0 after 28 minutes with a carbon copy of their first.
Doune didn’t give up and Heaver and McGowan were thwarted by the home keeper.
After fighting their way back into the game, Doune cruelly went 3-0 down in 44 minutes, when a shot took a wicked deflection to beat Fotheringham.
Castle came out after the break determined to force their way back into the match and deservedly pulled one back after 78 minutes.
Heaver sped past two defenders on the left and squared to Andy Innes at the edge of the box. His powerful half volley was stabbed home by Alan More.
Dalziel were worth their 3-1 win, despite a valiant effort from the Castle.
