Bid to build homes on `neglected’ land
Developers say housing proposal meets demand
Houses could be built on an overgrown area in Buchlyvie.
Ross Aitken has submitted an application to Stirling Council planners for three detached houses on land behind 45-55 Main Street.
The developer says the plans should also improve parking for some nearby homes.
The site is located on the south side of Main Street, behind the former Rob Roy pub.
In a submission to planners, agents for Mr Aitken said: “The development will provide a high standard of accommodation within an area where there is a high demand which is not being met and suitable sites are in very short supply.
“The proposed development complies with all relevant Local Development Plan provisions.
“Our client’s proposal is to generate a discrete and attractive three small house development with two single storey houses and one, one and a half storey house that will contribute to the area and to provide upgraded parking facilities.
“The access will be widened to achieve the required standards and will be surfaced to meet the requirements of the roads department. The surfaced access road will provide entry to the three plots and also to the upgraded parking facilities both for visitors and the existing residents of the four flats at 49-55 Main Street.”
The agents said the site owned by Mr Aitken is overgrown garden ground and he is currently negotiating to buy adjacent overgrown ground to complete the proposed development.
“The grounds are in a rather unattractive, neglected condition,” said the agents, “and are certainly not contributing to the appearance of this area, with some fly tipping potentially now becoming a problem.
“The site is located at the south-west corner of the formally designated Buchlyvie Conservation Area within a predominantly residential area with the surrounding buildings other than the former Rob Roy of a ‘modern’ character.”
Council planners will consider the submissions and make a recommendation in due course.
