Your chance to see Bonnie

- Kaiya Marjoribanks

Visitors to Blair Drummond Safari Park have the opportunity to see a baby rhinoceros up close.

There are over 350 interesting and exotic animals at Blair Drummond Safari Park, including four southern white rhinos: adults Dot, Tswane and Graham, and baby Bonnie, who was born in September last year.

Bonnie is the fifth calf to be born at the park as part of Blair Drummond’s successful Endangered Species Breeding Programme, which has played an important role in safeguarding the population of these beautiful animals.

Lynn Wyllie, Head Keeper of Large Mammals at Blair Drummond said:“We have four rhinoceros here at Blair Drummond Safari Park, including Bonnie, who was born last autumn. The white rhinoceros is the second-largest land mammal in the world (after the elephant) and while Bonnie is still relatively small, when full grown she will weigh up to two tonnes – roughly the same weight as a large family car.

“The name rhinoceros means‘nose horn’and is often shortened to rhino. Rhinos’horns are made of a protein called keratin, which is the same substance found in human fingernails and hair.”

The Stirling Observer has teamed up with Blair Drummond Safari Park again this season to offer the chance of winning a family pass every week.

For a chance to win just answer this question: How many rhinoceros are there at Blair Drummond?
