Fundayto markgym opening

-

A fun day organised to celebrate the installation of new outdoor gym equipment will take place at Thistles Park in St Ninians this week.

Borestone Community Council secured funding to install green fitness equipment at the space earlier this year.

And on Friday afternoon the fixtures will be formally opened by Stirling Council leader Scott Farmer.

There will also be trainerled sessions at the outdoor gym, football activities, fun and games in the park and youth activities.

Activities will be run by Active Stirling and Stirling Council, and it is hoped enforcement officers will also be present to chat about dog citizenship – one of the issues highlighted on the community council’s community survey.

A spokesperson for the community council said: “We are really pleased to have been able to secure funding, working with Clackmannanshire and Stirling Environment Trust, and Stirling Council, to install green gym equipment earlier this year.

“We would really like to specifically thank Tricia Cooke for her dedication, hard work and perseverance in getting the gym equipment and installation arranged before she had to stand down as a community councillor when she and her husband moved to be closer to her family.

“The community council have also arranged to have two benches fitted by this equipment, which we hope will be in place before Friday.”

The event will run from 1.30pm to 3.30pm on Friday. A 160-year-old building in the centre of Stirling is to be turned into flats.

Wellington House, which was the home of Mathie Macluckie Solicitors for almost 70 years, has received planning permission for conversion into four luxury apartments.

Ewan Campbell Homes will create the two-and three-bedroom apartments, each individually designed and with layouts said to“blend the design of the original house with stylish, modern living”.

Built around 1830, Wellington House is seen as an important part of Stirling’s history and several discoveries were made by the developers during their exploratory work.

These include a barrelled ceiling from its initial use as a YMCA hall that has remained hidden for over seven decades.

The redevelopment of the property will be the fourth listed building Ewan Campbell Homes has renovated within the city centre in the last five years.

Owner Ewan Campbell said: “Wellington House is a gorgeous building in the heart of Stirling and our architect’s design pays homage to the original building with all four apartments making great use of the building’s space and light.

“The duplex penthouse apartments within the barrelled ceiling of the building will be spectacular and a real conversation starter.”Work will start this year and the flats are due for completion in early 2018.
