Carse renewed at forty

Reinvigorated community club marks anniversary

- Donald Morton

One of the Stirling area’s best-known community football clubs is celebrating its 40th anniversary in September.

Carse Thistle was found by Dick Taylor, who was committed to giving youngsters the opportunity to get involved with a local team.

His efforts saw him win a Sunday Mail Grassroots award in 2007 but when he died in 2011, the club started to slide until in 2013, with no teams registered, Carse Thistle was relaunched by a group of ex-coaches who had witnessed several age groups fold.

Carse have been rebuilding and have created three new age groups at 2006, 2007 and 2008 levels, all hoping to follow in the footsteps of the club’s most famous graduate – former Scottish international and now Everton first-team coach Duncan Ferguson.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary, Carse Thistle are hosting a Community Fun Day on Sunday, September 17 at Wallace High School from 11am3pm. There will be activities and entertainment for children and adults – it’s open to anyone and there is no entry fee.

Two charities will be supported on the day – the Eilidh Brown Memorial Fund and Kick’s Count.

The club is hoping some of its old boys will turn out and help them celebrate. Anyone interested in booking a stall at the craft fair or any old players with stories and photos, email info@ carsethistle.co.uk.
