Trust face waiting game over Brown
Bid to oust chairman put on hold until AGM vote
Moves by Stirling Albion fans to unseat their chairman Stuart Brown took a fresh twist this week.
At a meeting of Stirling Albion Society (Trust) Board, it was decided that the matter should be further discussed at the trust’s Annual General Meeting due to take place on September 12.
Members will decide at that gathering whether to call an extraordinary general meeting to consider a recommendation from the trust board to oust Mr Brown.
It will require an affirmative vote among shareholders to end the chairman’s tenure at the fan-owned club.
The board of the trust indicated last week there had been an “irreconcilable breakdown” in relations between their members and Mr Brown, and they wanted him removed.
Members of the executive board of the Trust explained the reasons behind their move at the behindclosed-doors meeting at the Mayfield centre, St Ninians on Tuesday.
The meeting was attended by about 70 members of the trust and lasted two hours.
Secretary of the Trust executive Councillor Jim Thomson said: “It was a cordial meeting. We explained our reasons and one or two things were said or half said which shouldn’t have been said. There were views on both sides, with some members supportive of the chairman.”
He added: “The trust board, representing its members, with 82 per cent of shares, had the power to call an EGM of the club.
“That was decided by the Trust Board on Tuesday. However, there was a valid motion put to the board, with 10 per cent of support from Trust members, which said the recommendation to call an EGM to remove Mr Brown should be put to all Trust members at their forthcoming AGM later this month.
“Being a valid motion, the matter will be discussed at the AGM. Only then, and if Trust members agree, will the matter be put to the shareholders of Stirling Albion FC.”
Councillor Thomson admitted it was a “tortuous” process but added: “It will cause a delay but we don’t think it will effect what’s is happening on the park.
“It would have been better if it was dealt with quicker but this is a democratic fan-owned club and we have to do the bidding of the fans.”
Albion are still top of League Two having cemented their position with an away win at Peterhead on Saturday.
Mr Brown has declined to comment on the turmoil at the club.
