MSP backing group’s plea to shop local and aid businesses

- Robert Fairnie

Keith Brown MSP met with a newly-formed group whose aim it is to encourage people to shop local and support local business.

The Clackmannanshire and Dunblane representative sat down with members of Tillicoultry Traders to hear about their plans.

The group, which is made up of businesses from Tillicoultry, Coalsnaughton and Devonside, was formed following the launch of the Community Development Plan in May.

Feedback from the community found that a priority was to improve facilities, activities, information for visitors and regenerate Tillicoultry High Street – and this is where the group’s main focus will be.

Mr Brown said: “It is encouraging that following the success of the development plan and the engagement from members of the wider community, positive action has been created, with the Tillicoultry Traders being an example of this.

“Our area has some fantastic businesses which are the backbone of our local economy — supporting jobs and growth in our communities.

“The Hillfoots villages and their businesses play an integral part in this and that’s why I am delighted to support this great initiative in Tillicoultry.

“I would encourage other businesses in the town to join the Tillicoultry Traders group and work together on maximising the potential of Tillicoultry”.

Sheena McLullich from the group added: “We’re pleased to have the support of Keith Brown MSP and we look forward to working with him to develop the Tilly Traders into a vibrant and powerful voice for local businesses.”
