Callander’s biggest day out

-

One of the oldest and most popular events in Callander proved a colourful attraction last Saturday.

The Callander and District Horticultural Society Show is one of the longest-running events in the community’s calendar, first having been held in 1873.

Once again Callander Kirk was filled with flowers, vegetables, baking and crafts for everyone to admire, especially the art works on upcycled CDs created for the show by pupils from Callander Primary School.

Judges Bill Nichol, Jim Struthers, Morag Mason and Gordon Scott had the difficult task of awarding points for the various trophies, which Alena Watt presented to the winners.

Alena has only just retired from the committee after giving many years of service to support the show.

Spokesperson Lucy Fraser-Gunn said:“There are a few folk who have supported the show over many of the years it has been running.

“Now it is great to see new faces, willing and certainly capable, joining to ensure the show will go on.” Winners
