Dunblane Brownies Rise To The Challenge

-

Youngsters from the 3rd Dunblane Brownie Unit were among around 3,000 Girlguiding Scotland members who took part in an action-packed fun day.

Nineteen girls from the unit joined in at Girlguiding’s Scotland Rise to the Challenge celebration at Glamis Castle on Saturday, August 26.

They had the chance to tackle interactive workshops including the Glasgow Science Centre’s Body Works on Tour at which the girls put their strength and endurance to the test.

They also took part in circus skills workshops and got to try everything from trapeze to juggling, and fun and games including assault courses, bubble football, grass sledding and drumming workshops.

Heather Sinclair , seven, said:“Rise to the Challenge was loads of fun – my favourite part was the fun fair rides, especially the Twister. I loved the Army obstacle course too.”

Daisy Norman (10) added:“It was great to have fun and try new things with all my friends from Brownies. My favourite part was learning circus skills, like juggling and platespinning. I even got to try out grass sledging which was great fun, and learnt how to make muesli at the Tesco Cereal Workshop.”

Karen Crothers, unit leader added:“Giving girls a safe space to try new experiences and challenge themselves is what Girlguiding Scotland is all about so we were really excited to take our girls along to this action-packed day.

“It was brilliant to see girls getting stuck into so many different activities and to come together with members from all over Scotland. Our girls loved testing their strength, endurance and agility at Glasgow Science Centre’s Fitlab and it’s even given us some ideas for how we can do more fitness in our unit meetings this term.”
