Mackay happy with his squad as deadline day passes

- David Ogilvie

Stirling Albion manager Dave Mackay wasn’t expecting to do any late business ahead of the closure of the transfer window at midnight last night.

The Binos boss will still have the ability to bring in players on emergency loan over the next few months if he wants to add to his squad but is understandably happy at the way things are going.

Mackay has brought seven players to Forthbank this summer: Steven Noble (Peterhead), Peter MacDonald (Clyde), Callumn Morrison (Hearts, loan), Ewan McNeil (Clyde), Mark Foden (Ross County, loan), Lee Hamilton (Berwick Rangers) and Neil McLaughlin (Partick Thistle, loan).

Morrison and McLaughlin both scored for their parent clubs in midweek Development League games and Stirling have looked a real threat in every league match this season.

He said: “I’m very happy with the squad we have and we have good options from the bench as well. We still have Sean Dickson and Andy Little to come back from injury, so I wouldn’t expect us to be bringing anyone else unless we have a few more players out.

“I’m not the type of person to rush people back, so Sean and Andy will return when I think they are ready to start training. With the way we are playing at the moment there is no need to force people to speed up their recovery.”

The Binos have made a perfect start in Ladbrokes League Two, notching up four wins out of four, but have no game this weekend after losing to Montrose in round one of the IRN-BRU Cup.

Albion have a two-point lead at the top of the table and join Aberdeen as the only SPFL teams still with a 100-per-cent record.

Mackay, whose has fielded nine of the same players in every game, added: “It’s great to have 12 points out of 12 but it’s early days. Montrose have also made a good start, Elgin have picked up and Stenhousemuir and Peterhead will fancy their chances as well. I’d rather have a game this weekend but we will look forward to the Clyde match.”

Meanwhiel, the board of the Supporters Trust have put forward a motion to remove chairman Stuart Brown from the club’s executive board after six years at the helm but Mackay insists the off-field arguments won’t derail their promotion ambitions.

He said: “We can’t let that affect us. It’s well out of our control — I’m there as a manager of the players to take care of the football side of things. Our focus is on winning games.

Stirling Albion’s U20 side begin their SPFL Development League East campaign by hosting Raith Rovers on Monday, September 4, at 8pm.
