Pathwork stopped

- Robert Fairnie

Work to improve pathways on Dumyat Hill has been halted after an outcry from cyclists and walkers.

Scottish Power Energy Networks (SP Energy Networks) has called a temporary halt to the work that began to restore the route as part of the Beauly-toDenny powerline mitigation work last week.

Police are hunting the driver of a pick-up truck who ploughed into the middle of Stirling’s iconic Clock Roundabout after crashing into a barrier.

The accident happened at around 12.20am on Monday and the driver made off from the scene. Police are currently investigating and officers say they are following a positive line of enquiry.

The Observer understands that a vehicle struck the metal barrier, which is erected to protect both motorists and those using the walkway beneath, and fell into the central

area used by pedestrians. A significant amount of damage has been done to the barrier as it appears to be bent out of shape and separated from support posts. The stone underpass is also believed to have suffered damage.

Several cones have been put out warning people of the danger while a cordon was erected at the busy underpass preventing people from using the exit which leads on to Wallace Street, near to Tesco, by foot.

Anyone trying to access this area was required to cross at least two busy roads.
