BofA club to clash with a top flight side
Locals face Western in Hyndland
Bridge of Allan Sports Club’s preparations for the new squash campaign will reach their peak on Saturday when the Minewood club take on Glasgow cracks Western in a pre-season friendly in Hyndland.
A composite 10-player team with the men’s first, second and third teams and ladies teams all represented, will face one of the West of Scotland’s top outfits as both clubs look to hone their match sharpness to a cutting point.
The BofA side will be captained by first team stalwart Iain Logan (pictured), a threetime previous Western club champion in a long and illustrious career that has seen him compete at the top of the domestic game for more than 10 years.
“Logy” as he is known to everyone at Minewood, is anticipating a tough match. “We are under no illusions as to how tough this friendly will be as Western will have the former Scotland international Martin Woods playing at number four,” said Iain.
“But what is most important for us is that we have a team which includes players from all four of our sides, who will gain excellent competitive match-play preparation just 10 days before the new season begins.
“For some of our youngsters like Robbie Harper and James Dougan this will be an opportunity to come up against senior opposition they have never met before and gauge as to where they are in terms of all the hard work they have put in over the summer.”
Also making a return to the BofA ranks for the first time in many years is former Scotland under-21 internationalist Blair Christie while the ladies teams will be represented by Sheena Logan and former under-17 girl internationalist Morgan McGuire.
Saturday’s trip for Iain will represent a trip down memory lane. The BofA skipper said: “I had some great times playing for Western in the West Leagues and was lucky enough to be the club champion there on a few occasions and it will be great to catch up with old friends.
“We are looking forward to the trip and with the first team’s league opener being against former East champions Grange, this really is a vital part of our preparation.”
