Team who are so inspiring
Warm tribute was paid to Stirling volunteers at a special event held at the Engine Shed.
The Inspiring Volunteer Awards 2017 concluded the city’s inaugural Festival of Volunteering.
William Cameron was crowned volunteer of the year for his work at the MS Therapy Centre in Springkerse .
And work at the MS Therapy Centre was also recognised when Lorna Malcolm picked up the outstanding trustee accolade.
Awards were presented after the audience of 150 heard stories of community heroes who gave up their time to help organisations and individuals.
Host Tonya Macari said: “It is a privilege to be involved in and associated with such an inspirational event.
“Meeting the finalists and hearing their personal stories quite simply has restored my faith in human nature. It was lovely to be part of the team to honour their contributions to the local community.”
Entertainment for the evening was provided by Forth Valley Nurses Choir and the event was attended by Provost Christine Simpson, Stirling Council Leader Scott Farmer, George Thomson of Volunteer Scotland and Police Superintendent Martin Fortherington.
The festival, organised by a range of partners including Volunteer Scotland, Stirling Council and Stirlingshire Voluntary Enterprise (SVE), was designed to celebrate the contribution of volunteers and encourage greater community participation. It consisted of a range of events from a volunteering family day to a networking event.
Other winners were – innovation award , Breda Seaman; volunteering in sport, Pam Sandy, Stirling Netball Team; heart of gold , Tammy Martin, Homestart Stirling; young volunteer of the year, Ronan Don, PLUS Forth Valley; outstanding achievement in health and social care , Cultural Activities in Care Homes, and volunteer team of the year, Enable Arion Disability Swimming Club.
