Service followed by social

- Kaiya Marjoribanks

Logie Kirk’s new minister is set to receive a warm welcome when she is inducted at a ceremony in the church tomorrow evening (Thursday).

The Church of Scotland’s Stirling Presbytery is to hold a special service of worship during which Rev Ruth Halley will be inducted.

An open invitation is being extended to members and friends of the church to take part in the service, which starts at 7pm and will be led by the Moderator of Stirling Presbytery, Rev Lynne Mack.

It will include the making of vows by Rev Halley and by members of the congregation. She will be joining Rev Anne Shearer, who is an established Auxiliary Minister with Logie Kirk.

Immediately following the service there will be a welcome social at which the current Interim Moderator, Rev Liz Robertson, will hand over to the new minister. All who attend the service are invited to stay and enjoy the welcome social, at which a highlight will be the music provided by the Logie Kirk Choir and by pupils of Wallace High School.

Rev Halley said: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining Logie Kirk and very much looking forward to getting to know people, both in the church and in the wider community.”

The parish of Logie is one of the oldest in Scotland and covers an extensive area. Much of the parish, including the University of Stirling campus, can be viewed from the top of the Wallace Monument, both of which lie within the parish. It is bounded by the villages of Menstrie to the east and Bridge of Allan to the west, and includes a population of around 5,000 people in Causewayhead.

Rev Halley is said to bring with her “not only a relevant background but also great energy and enthusiasm”.

Building on a successful career in education, she studied divinity at Edinburgh University and first held office as assistant minister at the city’s famous Greyfriars’ Kirk.

Later called to Penicuik, she spent over five years as a parish minister in a town church similar in size to Logie Kirk. She describes her ministry as “firmly rooted in the traditions of the Church of Scotland while embracing of new forms of communication and relevant for the 21st century”.

Rev Halley will be living in the Logie manse in Causewayhead with her husband, Kenny Inglis. The couple have three grown up children who all live at a distance but are expected to visit regularly.

She can be contacted at rhalley@churchofscotland.org. uk or on tel: 01786 463060.
