Court seizes£1000 cash

- Court reporter

A drug dealer caught with £400 worth of cannabis was jailed for five months.

Daniel McQuade was concerned in the supply of the class B drug at Maxwell Place, Stirling, between September 14 and 19 last year.

The 23-year-old, whose address was given as Maxwell Place, was found to have drugs worth £452 along with paraphernalia including a pipe and grinder.

Police also recovered £632.90 in cash.

Fiscal depute Khadija Sarwar told the court that police stopped McQuade near to Fubar nightclub on September 19.

She said: “His eyes were glazed and his speech slurred and he was searched.”

Drugs and cash were recovered along with a box of herbal material, a pipe and a grinder. A search of McQuade’s home then led to the discovery of another £285 in cash and three mobile phones.

Defence solicitor George Pollock said: “It is accepted that for a limited period of five days he was concerned as libelled.

“He is a first offender and there is the availability of a non-custodial disposal.

“He is in full-time employment but I am sure arrangements could be made for some sort of community work.

“I would invite you to consider the alternatives to custody.”

But Sheriff Wyllie Robertson told McQuade: “You were clearly concerned in the supply of drugs. Although it was limited to five days, it was clear you were positively involved.

“Your explanation to social work is inconsistent with your plea of guilty. I am satisfied here that the only appropriate option is custody.”

He also ordered the cash and phones to be forfeited.
