Ceilidh will be a blast

-

Killearn lad Lewis Forbes has reached the final countdown in fundraising for a trip to Guyana.

The 16-year-old is aiming to spend a year in the country teaching science and maths in rural schools as a volunteer and has embarked on a raft of fundraising activities in recent months.

He is hoping a family ceilidh on November 24 in Killearn Village Hall, from 7.30pm, will help him hit his target.

As well as dancing to music from the Balfron High School Ceilidh Band, the resourceful young man has a few games, a big prize raffle and other money-raising ideas up his sleeve for the evening, all in a bid to make his trip to South America with Project Trust a reality.

Among the raffle prizes is a canvas of the village’s Buchanan Monument taking off in ‘rocket-like’fashion.

Lewis said:“Thanks to the considerable support of the Killearn Trust and other trusts, as well as the cash raised by small family-run events, I have almost hit my target of £6200 which covers my flights and expenses. I hope the ceilidh will see me winging my way to South America.”

To purchase ceilidh tickets or donate raffle prizes, contact Lewis on his project Facebook page at www.facebook. com/lewpt.

Ceilidh tickets are £12 for adults, £8 students.
