Hero soldier’s church

Regular Advertiser reader Doris Clark, of Pearl Street, Callander submitted this picture of the former Bridge of Teith UF Church, near Doune (below).

Mrs Clark handed in the picture after reading last week’s World War One Centenary page about the death in action in France on September 20, 1917, of Alex Duncan, while serving with the Loyal North Lancashires. The young Deanston man, who worked in the weaving industry, was a stalwart member of the Bridge of Teith UF Church.

After reading the piece Mrs Clark (72), who herself served in the WRENS for five years, thought readers might be interested to see a picture of the church where Alex sang.
