Should Stirling be split in two?

-

Our story in last Friday’s Observer about proposed changes to the Westminster constituency boundaries, splitting the city of Stirling and creating the new constituencies of Stirlingshire and South Perthshire and Stirling and Falkirk North, drew comment on our social media page.

John Buchan posted : “Stirling city could be split from the rural parts as they have little in common in reality but don’t split Stirling in half.”

Gordon Copland: “Why should Bannockburn and Eastern Villages get tied in with Bonnybridge, Castlecary and so on. We have nothing in common with these areas .”

Colin Fenwick: “This more resembles constituencies we had up until 1983. There was the Stirling Burghs constituency which was Stirling and Falkirk but later took in Grangemouth. West Stirlingshire took in Bridge of Allan, Eastern Villages, Bannockburn, most of west of Falkirk, including Camelon and as far south and west as Kilsyth. Kinross and West Perthshire took in Dunblane and extended to Tyndrum and as far east as Kinross. Clackmannan and East Stirlingshire took in Clackmannan and everything in else in Stirlingshire. Bo’ness ofcourse was in West Lothian. Those were probably the craziest boundaries that ever existed. There will never be boundaries that everybody and every party will agree with.”

Malcolm Corrigan: “If this means no more Stephen Kerr? That will do me nicely.”
