Librarian appeals tostay inpost

-

Stirling Public Library’s librarian, Mr WG Waugh, appeared before a military tribunal 100 years ago this week.

Mr Waugh had been refused further exemption from call-up but his solicitor Mr George Whyte submitted an application from the committee of Stirling Public Library for a re-hearing.

Mr Whyte said the librarian had only been passed C1 which meant he was only fit for garrison service in the UK.

The committee felt that in view of this low category, Mr Waugh would be much better employed in his present position.

If Mr Waugh was taken away they would be left in the library with “girls of no experience whatsoever, and it was absolutely impossible to get a trained librarian”. Rehearing was granted and the appeal was sustained.
