Water big move to boost company

A top aquacultur­e firm has set up camp at the University of Stirling.

AquaGen, who claim to be the world’s leading supplier of genetics to the salmonid aquacultur­e sector, this week opened an office at Stirling University Innovation Park (SUIP) where two employees will be based.

The firm currently employ over 200 people in Norway and Chile and the new base will enable them to strengthen its Scottish team and develop relationsh­ips with the country’s growing aquacultur­e industry.

Group marketing director Odd Elvebø said: “I am delighted to announce that we have opened an office at SUIP. It is close to the Institute of Aquacultur­e, with whom we maintain close ties, and will enable us to reinforce our collaborat­ion with academia.”

Andrew Reeve, who heads up AquaGen’s sales and marketing in the UK and Ireland, added: “Our company is already a major supplier of eggs to the Scottish and Irish salmon farming industries, but there are exciting developmen­ts underway in the field of genomic selection and we look forward to sharing these.”
