Woman trapped as she tried to save dog
Pulled free from riverbank mud by rescue teams
A dog walker had to be rescued after getting stuck in mud in the River Forth at Cambuskenneth.
Emergency services rushed to the woman’s aid after they received reports that she had become trapped near Cambuskenneth Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sent four appliances to the scene and both Scottish Ambulance Service staff and police were in attendance.
The incident happened shortly before 2.30pm and the alarm was raised by someone calling from a mobile phone.
Emergency services vehicles parked in Ferry Road and firefighters walked upstream on the Cambuskenneth side of the Forth to the banking alongside a field where the woman was trapped.
Watch manager at Dunblane fire station Jim Snedden said: “A woman had been walking her dog and the dog slipped down the bank and into the mud.
“The woman went in to try and get the dog out and her foot ended up getting stuck in the mud.
“She was stuck for around half an hour before she was freed and both she and the dog were unharmed.”
After being pulled free the woman was checked over by a team from the Scottish Ambulance Service but she was not taken to hospital.
Residents on both sides of the river reported seeing a large emergency response.
Allison Steele from Riverside said: “I was going out and saw the fire engines at the other side of the water.
“When I saw the ambulance I thought someone had maybe jumped from the bridge but the tide was quite low at that time”.
Sunday saw sub–zero temperatures, with parts of Stirling reaching as low as –6 Celsius.
The temperature was around –1 Celsius at the time of the rescue.
