Libraries offer DigiKnow Days

- Staff reporter

Workshops on the latest digital technology are available in Stirling district libraries in the next few months.

The DigiKnow Days provide an opportunity for both adults and children, with no prior knowledge or experience, to try out a wide range of digital tools, toys and technology.

They will be held at Balfron Library on Saturday, February 24 from 10am to 2pm and Central Library on Thursday, March 8 from 11.30am and 6.30pm.

The first DigiKnow event was held at Strathblane Library last Saturday, January 20, and attracted 240 people.

They were able to get their hands on a range of technology like 3D printers, coding software and hardware and even mini robots.

Stirling Council community planning and regeneration committee convener councillor Chris Kane, said:“The DigiKnow Days provide a fun platform for beginners to get hands-on experience of digital technology that they might otherwise not have access to.

“For the wider community, improving digital skills and confidence, increasing access to digital solutions and introducing new ways of working, can also lead to improved job prospects.

“All the feedback we have received so far has been incredibly positive, and we have been contacted by those attending to ask if we can work on projects with them. I would encourage everyone to come along and explore Stirling Libraries e-services and see how they can benefit from our new digital equipment.”

DigiKnow is suitable for any age, but there are specific opportunities for pre-school children with Appiness tablets, Osmos and Quiver. These activities introduce children to digital technology and tools which support them in literacy, numeracy, science and design, but are also fun and creative.
