Efforts to improve safety in pubs across Stirling and Dunblane are proving a success.

Twelve licensed venues received official accreditation to the Best Bar None Scotland scheme at its annual awards ceremony on Tuesday (January 23) held in the Golden Lion Hotel, Stirling.

Venues picked up gold, silver or bronze accreditation from the scheme which was first piloted in Glasgow in 2005 and aims to reduce alcohol-related crime and promote responsible management of pubs and other licensed venues.

Best Bar None coordinator for Stirling, PC Stewart Denny, said: “Stirling venues have shown they work hard to make the city a safe and vibrant place and take public safety and social responsibly very seriously.

“This is a great result for the Stirling scheme, which will hopefully grow in the coming years.

“I would encourage all licensed premises in the Stirling and Dunblane area to find out about the scheme and join up.

“I am certain there are many other licensed premises in the area who are working hard to keep Stirling safe and it’s an opportunity to show this through the Best Bar None scheme.”

Stirling Area Commander, Chief Inspector Gill Boulton said: “Accreditation through Best Bar None signals that venues have been rigorous in their demonstration of the highest standards and are proud to offer safe and welcoming licensed premises to the people of Stirling.”

Venues receiving gold awards were; Golden Lion; No 2 Baker Street; Molly Malones; Fubar; Morrisons Cold Beer Company; Kilted Kangaroo; City Walls; Crossed Peels; University of Stirling Students’ Union and the Dunblane Hydro. Silver awards went to The Corn Exchange and The Tappit Hen.

A number of venues have been nominated for the Best Bar None Scotland national awards due to take place at Dunblane Hydro in March. They are: No2 Baker Street for best pub; Kilted Kangaroo for best independent pub; Dunblane Hydro for best hotel bar; Fubar for best nightclub; University of Stirling Students Union for best special entertainment venue as well as best use of innovation in social responsibility, Golden Lion Hotel for ‘heart of the community’ award.
