Quiz to raise cash for hut work

-

Cash is being raised to pay for repairs to a 100-year-old community hut in Bannockburn which was trashed by vandals.

A fundraising quiz night will take place in Bannockburn Bowling Club on Saturday in aid of the facility, which is used by Rainbows, Guides, Brownies and a Boys’Brigade company.

Residents had reacted with dismay after yobs threw bricks at the hut’s glass windows, wooden window frames and cladding, causing considerable damage.

The structure was refurbished in a £20,000 project just three years ago and this latest incident, which happened on January 29, comes as a setback to those who use the facility.

Community council secretary Tommy Cattigan said at the time that materials would have to be purchased to repair the damage.

And in the days that followed a number of generous locals stepped up to the plate, donating cash and materials to help restore the hut.

New windows and CCTV cameras have been fitted while £700 has been raised to put towards the project.

However, community-spirited volunteers want to raise extra cash to put towards the required restoration of one of the damaged walls.

A spokesperson for the community council said:“A massive thanks must go to all who have helped to date and those still working to raise funds.”

The quiz night starts at 8pm with doors at 7.30pm. Tickets are £3. For tickets phone 01786 815691.
