Boys’ Brigade reach out to the vulnerable

- Kaiya Marjoribanks

Dozens of Boys’Brigade members in Dunblane teamed up to help those left housebound or stuck by the severe weather.

On Friday morning, almost 40 BB boys (and some girls), leaders and parents met with shovels and spades, ready to clear snow for some of Dunblane’s more vulnerable residents, many of whom had been stuck inside since Tuesday.

Starting at two ends of the town, the boys visited homes in pairs and groups, shovelling snow, clearing and gritting pathways, and offering to collect messages at local shops for those whose supplies were running low.

A group of three boys even cleared the two footbridges over the snowbound railway at Dunblane station.

One of the Boys’Brigade officers helping on the day, Fraser Boyd, said:“Giving service to the community is a big part of Boys’Brigade membership, right from the youngest boy through to those achieving their Queen’s Badge. But during Lent, we often latch on to the #40Acts campaign in our bible class, encouraging generosity and acts of kindness.

“This snow provided a surprise opportunity for the boys to use their talents and time to spontaneously help others.

“The older people of Dunblane, many of whom were unable to get out and about until this point, were visibly grateful and we’d like to thank them and other members of the public who gave the boys and young men such encouragement.”
